WELCOME & OVERVIEW

Your baby changes so quickly during the first two years of life, and each stage brings new skills, new expressions, and new little quirks that deserve to be remembered. Milestone sessions are designed to capture these fleeting moments.

Every milestone session is different. A tummy time session has different requirements than a bubble bath shoot, and a cake smash requires totally different considerations than a toddler milestone. This guide will walk you through the options for each stage.

This is just a small snippet. I have an in-depth exclusive client guide ready for you when you book a milestone session with me.

FOUNDATION FOR MILESTONES

When it comes to milestone styling, the foundation is simple: comfort, movement, and timelessness. Babies and toddlers need to feel free to move. The key is to focus on clothing that feels soft and minimal. Muted colors, simple textures, and clean silhouettes will always photograph better than busy patterns or bright, trendy outfits.

Another element of the styling foundation is consistency across your child’s entire milestone journey. By keeping a similar palette and aesthetic across different sessions, your photos will display beautifully together.A series of images showing your baby from tummy time to toddlerhood feels even more powerful when the styling flows from one session to the next.

TUMMY TIME & SITTER SESSIONS

The three-month milestone is such a sweet stage. Babies are starting to push up during tummy time, their little neck muscles are strengthening, and their eyes are bright and curious. Clothing for tummy time should be simple and snug. Loose outfits tend to bunch around the face when your baby is lying on their tummy. Avoid stiff fabrics, oversized clothing, or anything with large collars or hoods that could get in the way.

The six-month sitter session is one of the most joyful milestones to photograph. Avoid anything too loose or layered. Bulky dresses, wide-legged pants, or outfits with lots of frills. Neutral tones like cream, sage, oatmeal, or muted blush keep the look classic, while ribbed fabrics or subtle embroidery add just the right amount of texture.

CRAWLER & CAKE SMASH SESSIONS

By nine months, many babies are on the move. Whether they’re scooting, crawling, or pulling up, the crawler session is filled with energy and personality. Styling for this stage needs to be as flexible as your baby is. Soft separates or stretchy rompers work beautifully for crawlers. Think ribbed cotton leggings paired with a snug top, or a knit romper that moves with your baby and is nuetral in color.

The cake smash is one of the most fun and memorable milestone sessions. Because these sessions are playful, messy, and full of laughter, the styling should be simple, comfortable, and easy to clean. It’s best to avoid full dresses, stiff collars, or anything that feels too formal. These outfits don’t move well once the frosting starts flying, and they can make cleanup more stressful. Keep it light, breathable, and easy to toss in the wash afterward.

MILK BATH & BUBBLE SESSIONS

Milk bath sessions are dreamy, soft, and timeles. There's not a lot of styling that goes into these stages but be sure to bring a reusable swim diaper in white, and a couple towels.

Bubble sessions are all about joy, movement, and play. Whether indoors or outside, these sessions capture your baby or toddler laughing, chasing, and popping bubbles. Lightweight, comfortable clothing is key. Rompers, soft knit sets, or muslin overalls allow your little one to move freely while still looking polished. Since bubbles can make clothing damp, breathable fabrics that dry quickly are always a smart choice. Neutral tones like cream, sage, dusty rose, or taupe will look beautiful, while small, subtle textures add variety without competing with the activity.

18 MONTH & 2 YEAR OLD SESSIONS

At eighteen months, toddlers are full of personality, curiosity, and independence.Color palettes should stay muted but can lean slightly richer as your child gets older. Dusty rust, olive green, muted navy, or soft mustard pair beautifully with creams and taupes, adding depth without overwhelming the gallery. Rompers and overalls remain wonderful choices at this stage as do simple dresses and knit sweaters. Avoid clothing that feels overly too trendy, flashy, or uncomfortable.

The two-year milestone sessions are often full of movement, laughter, and a little bit of mischief, which is exactly what makes them so special. At two years old, your little one can often wear a wider variety of clothing comfortably. Overalls, simple dresses, knit sets, or soft separates all work well. The key is to keep outfits clean and neutral, allowing your toddler’s personality and expressions to shine through.

STYLING PARENTS

Though milestone sessions center on your baby or toddler, moms are often included in a few images. Flowing maxi dresses or wrap gowns in neutral tones are always a safe and flattering choice. They allow for easy movement while creating a gentle, timeless look that pairs beautifully with your child’s styling. If you prefer separates, a soft blouse paired with a long skirt or simple trousers can also work well.

Dads or partners may not always be in every milestone image, but when they are, their styling helps anchor the family’s look. Because milestone sessions are child-focused, partner styling should feel simple and understated. Linen button-downs, henleys, or well-fitted tees in solid nuetral colors all work well, and bottoms should be equally simple: chinos, khakis, or clean jeans in muted tones keep the look cohesive without competing for attention.

CLIENT CLOSET

One of the biggest perks of booking with me is having access to my client closet, which includes hand-selected outfits for babies and toddlers up to two years old. These pieces are chosen with both comfort and timeless style in mind, and they’re available to make your styling process simple and stress-free.

For mamas, I have a selection of nuetral colored dresses and seperates to choose from.

Baby and Toddler outfits are available in sizes 3T and smaller. The closet includes rompers, dresses, and knit sets in nuetral and muted colors.
