There’s something extraordinary about photographing a six-month-old. At this stage, babies are full of personality, curious about the world, and able to interact in ways that make every photo feel alive. They’re sitting up, reaching for toys, laughing at silly faces, and showing off all the little quirks that make them who they are.
That was exactly the case with Baby A. Her six-month milestone session in my Edmonds studio was everything I love about this age and more. From fresh flowers to a sweet milk bath, from wide smiles to funny bottle breaks, Baby A showed us all the magic of the sitter stage. And because this was a model session, it went longer than usual — which gave us an even fuller story of who she is right now.
We started Baby A’s session in my home studio, where the natural light created a soft, warm glow. She wore several dresses from my client closet — each one chosen to complement her sweet personality and the florals we incorporated throughout the session.
The flowers were fresh from Stadium Flowers, a favorite local shop. I love supporting small businesses in our community, and incorporating their blooms brought the session to life. Baby A was fascinated by the florals — reaching out with tiny fingers, giggling as petals brushed her hands, and holding them with a look of pure wonder. Watching her explore the textures and colors reminded me how these little details can make sessions feel magical.
Her patience amazed me. At just six months, most babies have a pretty short attention span — especially for a session that lasted nearly three hours. (Most milestone sessions are half that time.) But Baby A stayed engaged, curious, and joyful, with only a few breaks needed to recharge.
About halfway through, Baby A reminded us that even the best little models get hungry. She started to fuss, so her mom gave her a bottle. We placed her back in the basket she’d been posing in, and she lounged like a queen while she guzzled down her milk.
The moment was hilarious and heartwarming all at once — her tiny feet kicking, her eyes half-closed with satisfaction, and her whole demeanor saying, “This is my world and you’re just living in it.”
It’s a perfect example of why I never rush sessions and always embrace breaks. Babies aren’t machines, and some of the sweetest photos happen in those unplanned pauses. Parents often tell me later that these “in-between” shots are the ones they treasure most because they show their baby’s personality in such a real way.
Three hours is a long time for any baby, let alone one who is just six months old. Normally, milestone sessions are shorter for a reason: babies get tired, overstimulated, or just ready to be done.
But Baby A impressed me with her stamina. She powered through outfit changes, floral setups, and even a milk bath at the end — with smiles and curiosity still shining through. A big part of that was thanks to her older brother, who came along and helped keep her entertained. Every time he popped up, her face lit up with the brightest grin. It was clear she adores him, and the connection between siblings added so much joy to the session.
It reminded me that milestone sessions aren’t just about what we as photographers plan — they’re about the little dynamics and relationships that unfold naturally.
We ended the session with a classic: a six-month milk bath. These are always a hit — babies love the sensory experience, and parents love the soft, dreamy look of the final images.
Baby A splashed happily, reaching for petals floating on the surface. She leaned forward with determination, dipping her tiny hands into the water, then looked up with a gummy grin that melted all our hearts.
What I love about milk bath sessions is how they combine play with beauty. They’re fun for the baby and stunning for the gallery. And in Baby A’s case, they capped off a session that was equal parts joyful, sweet, and memorable.
Baby A’s milestone session is a perfect example of why six months is such an incredible age for photos. Babies are:
It’s a fleeting stage. Before long, babies are crawling, pulling up, and moving nonstop. Six-month photos freeze this short, magical window where curiosity, sweetness, and personality all collide.
Baby A’s gallery tells a full story — from posed floral portraits to candid bottle breaks to joyful splashes. And that’s the beauty of milestone photography: it captures both the planned and the unexpected.
For parents planning a six-month session, here are a few things to know:
Baby A’s six-month milestone session was one I’ll never forget. From exploring flowers to sipping her bottle like a boss, from smiling at her brother to splashing in her milk bath, she showed us every side of her sweet personality.
Her session reminded me that milestone photography isn’t about perfection — it’s about presence. It’s about creating space for babies to be themselves and letting those moments shine through in photos.
And in Baby A’s gallery, you can see it all: joy, curiosity, humor, and the love that surrounded her.
